Tranche

Tranche at the University of Michigan is a distributed storage platform that supports sharing and dissemination of potentially very large files and proteomics related datasets. Tranche is based on an encrypted peer-to-peer system and data uploaded into Tranche is split into discrete units and split across multiple servers. Tranche is a pure repository that hosts any kind of data and the concept of the system is analogous to a computer hard disk. Therefore, it is indeed the most universally applicable system.
